Slip-On Black Leather — Common Projects
Our black leather slip-on distills everything we stand for into one streamlined silhouette. Hand-finished in Italy using full-grain calfskin, each pair is built on the same margom sole tooling that anchors our Achilles line. The elastic gussets are reinforced at the stress points so they hold their tension season after season.

Every slip-on in our collection begins with full-grain calfskin sourced from tanneries in the Tuscany and Veneto regions. We specify hides graded for uniform grain texture and minimal surface correction, which allows the leather to age naturally without synthetic topcoats obscuring the patina.

Fit guidance and sizing
We cut our slip-on on the same last as the Achilles low, so if you own that style your size translates directly. The fit is true to US men’s sizing with a medium D width through the midfoot. The elastic gussets provide about 4mm of give at the instep, which accommodates a range of foot volumes without feeling sloppy.
If you typically wear a half size, we recommend sizing down. The leather will relax slightly during the first week of wear, and the elastic gussets offer enough stretch to ease entry even in the smaller size. Sizing up often results in heel slip once the upper breaks in.

Care and maintenance
Daily Care
Brush the uppers with a horsehair brush after each wear to remove surface dust before it settles into the grain. For scuffs, a damp microfiber cloth is usually sufficient — avoid saddle soap or conditioning creams unless the leather looks visibly dry, which typically takes six months or more of regular wear.
Deep Cleaning
When the uppers need a deeper clean, use a pH-neutral leather cleaner applied with a soft cloth in circular motions. Work in small sections and wipe away residue immediately. Let the shoes air-dry away from direct heat for 24 hours, then apply a thin coat of neutral cream polish if the finish looks matte.

Questions about the Common Projects slip-on
Our slip-on fits true to US men’s sizing and runs consistent with our Achilles low-top. If you wear a Nike or Adidas sneaker in size 10, you’ll typically wear the same size in our slip-on. The elastic gussets provide about 4mm of give at the instep, so the fit accommodates a range of foot volumes without feeling loose.
If you’re between half sizes, we recommend sizing down. The leather will relax slightly during the first week of wear, and the elastic stretches enough to ease entry even in the smaller size.
Yes, the perforated leather insole is designed to manage moisture and the interior is fully lined with smooth calfskin. Many of our customers wear the slip-on sockless in warmer months without experiencing odor buildup. If you do wear socks, no-show styles work best to maintain the clean visual line of the silhouette.
We engineered the elastic gussets with a higher spandex content and tighter gauge specifically to prevent the sagging that occurs with standard jersey elastic. The gussets are also bar-tacked at four stress points to distribute tension away from the leather join.
Under normal wear — putting the shoe on and off once or twice daily — the elastic should maintain its recovery for several years. If you do experience loosening, most shoe repair shops can replace the gusset panels, though we’ve rarely seen this become necessary within the first three years of ownership.
The primary difference is breathability and fit. The perforated version has laser-cut holes across the vamp that increase airflow, making it a better choice for warm weather or if your feet tend to run hot. The perforations also add fractional stretch to the upper, so that style feels about a half-size more generous in the same numeric size.
The solid black leather slip-on holds its shape more firmly and offers a slightly dressier appearance. Both are built on the same margom sole platform and use the same Italian calfskin, so the difference comes down to climate preference and how you plan to style the shoe.
For light scuffs, a damp microfiber cloth is usually sufficient. Wipe the affected area gently and let it air-dry for a few minutes. The matte finish hides minor marks better than high-gloss leather.
For deeper scuffs that penetrate the surface, use a pH-neutral leather cleaner on a soft cloth and work in small circular motions. After cleaning, apply a thin coat of neutral cream polish to restore the finish. Avoid black shoe polish, which can leave an artificial sheen that doesn’t match our matte aesthetic.
Yes, most experienced cobblers can re-sole the shoe using aftermarket margom sole blanks. The process typically costs between 80 and 120 dollars depending on your location. Because the upper is constructed to last many years, re-soling is a cost-effective way to extend the life of the shoe once the tread wears down to the molded wear indicators in the forefoot.
We recommend asking your cobbler about their experience with cemented sneaker construction before committing to the repair, as the technique differs from traditional stitched shoe resoling.
Our slip-on is cut with a medium D width through the midfoot. We don’t currently offer wide or narrow width options, but the elastic gussets provide enough give to accommodate a range of foot volumes. Customers with wider feet often find the elastic stretch sufficient, though we recommend trying the shoe on if possible to confirm the fit works for your specific foot shape.
